HCC's player development program is tried, tested and true. The program is designed in the same way as the programs being followed by our Olympic and National athletes under the guidelines and annual planning regimen endorsed by Hockey Canada. We train the athlete in all elements of development: Mental Preparation Training, Nutritional Preparation Training, Physical Conditioning and Training, Technical Skills Training, Individual Tactical Training, Team Tactics and Concepts. This development program combined with our superior academic program and our vast network of coaches and scouts optimizes our graduates' chances of acceptance to top level schools and teams.
HCC is a federated member of Hockey Quebec through the Laurentides-Lanaudieres Region. HCC particpates in Tier I & Tier II intercity leagues across the city of Montreal and its surrounding area. Each team from Peewee to Midget plays exhibition games, league games (plus playoffs) and tournaments for a total of over 50 games. The College team plays in the provincial College League and competes against the top teams from across Quebec.
Philosophy / History
Harrington's hockey development program is based on the Hockey Canada program developed at the 1999 Molson Open Ice Summit on Player Development in Canada. The program fosters the development of the fundamental skills required to play the game by measuring and providing positive individual feedback on skill development.
Objective
Harrington College's primary goal is to develop the athlete as a whole, with an intense 6 days per week, 10 months per year progressive program that builds a solid foundation of skill, tactics and training regiment. This foundation prepares him for NCAA or a pro career while providing him with options in sport through a complete sport education academic curriculum.
The Program
• Harrington's hockey program promotes better training and practice-to-game ratios than any other development program.
• Harrington strives to offer equal ice time for all players and ensures that all participants are developed in all aspects of hockey training.
• Harrington offers more time on the ice than any other school: 1.5 hours per day of on-ice training, 1.5 hours per day of off-ice training, and a minimum of 50 games including league, playoffs, tournaments and exhibitions per season.
• Harrington's hockey season is 10 months, August to May.
• Harrington's entire staff along with its advisory board are constantly at work establishing networks and promoting our graduates to NCAA University, colleges and Pro hockey. We have teams sending us their players for development and established links for player placement.
• Harrington College's Hockey program follows the same model used by Hockey Canada in training Olympic and National Athletes.
Coaching
Harrington's entire coaching staff and instructors consist of Hockey Canada Certified Coaches and graduates of the National Coaching Certification Program as well as graduates from the NHL.
